Accessibility Statement
This statement explains the work behind making the ADU Builders Bangor website usable with a screen reader, a magnifier or a keyboard alone, so that planning an ADU and reaching us is open to everyone. Our standard is WCAG 2.1, Level AA, and each edited page gets checked again.
Should a town map, the estimate quiz or another page block you, email [email protected] or phone us, and we will look into it. Everything the forms do, from describing your lot to booking a visit, can be done in a phone call.
Effective November 1, 2026. Last updated November 1, 2026.
Anyone planning a second home on their lot should be able to read these pages and use our forms without a struggle. Below are the guidelines we follow, what the site already does to help, the shortcomings we are aware of and how to report a problem.
Our Approach
Accessibility is part of how we write and build every page, from the first draft through each later change. Barriers we spot ourselves and barriers visitors report go on one list, and each stays there until it is solved.
The Standard We Build To
Version 2.1 of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, published by the W3C, is our reference, and Level AA is the level we work to. We make no claim of full conformance, as any review can miss a barrier, but the guidelines decide our layouts, colors and code.
Features in Place
- Headings in a clear order down each page, and link text that names where the link goes
- A text description on every meaningful photo, a visible label on each contact-form field, and quiz photo cards that work like ordinary checkboxes
- Color contrast between text and background kept at Level AA, a consent window that works from the keyboard, and animation that stays still when your device requests reduced motion
Known Gaps
Our town maps do not work well with a screen reader or keyboard-only navigation. The same towns appear as ordinary text links on each page that has a map, so nothing is lost by passing the map over.
Any Google Maps feature on the contact page carries Google's own accessibility, good and bad. Our phone number and office address are written out on that page as plain text, and our email is listed here.
Documents From Other Sources
Some of our pages link to documents we do not publish, such as a town's ordinance or the state's septic design form, and many of those are PDF files. The town or agency that posts each file controls how accessible it is.
If one of those documents is hard to read with your setup, ask us and we will tell you in plain words what it says for your lot.
Reporting a Barrier
Tell us where it happened and what you were trying to finish. Send the details to [email protected] or call us, and we will find what caused the problem and fix it.
Another Way to Reach Us
If a form will not cooperate, there is no need to wait on it, because a phone call starts an ADU estimate the same way the quiz does. Give us the town and the type of unit on the call, and the lot visit can be booked before you hang up.
